An area traditionally defined by manufacturing, and particularly the automobile industry, the West Midlands has diversified over the past few decades. Over 2,000 different companies are based in a region which contains the country's second largest city, Birmingham (1.1 M residents), as well major settlements including Coventry (340,000), Wolverhampton (250,000), Walsall (70,000), Dudley (80,000), and the metropolitan borough of Sandwell (317,000). Only 10% of the West Midlands' population are employed in the Manufacturing Industry, however, despite the historical importance of this type of industry in the area.
Local councils and authorities are popular employers, with Birmingham City Council for example being the largest local authority in Europe. There are also four universities based in Birmingham alone and ten in the West Midlands altogether, all of which provide a significant portion of employment in the county. The economy is dominated by the Service Industry, however, with over 80% of the population employed within it.
Unemployment rates in the West Midlands are relatively high (as with many urban areas), although recent figures are encouraging in this respect. Although plenty of employment opportunities are available in the area - especially in cities such as Birmingham and Coventry - competition amongst candidates can be stiff. For this reason, use of recruitment agencies is popular in the area - both to find the right candidates for a job amongst many applicants, and to find job openings suitable for a person's qualifications and career-background.
This page represents an easy way to find recruitment agencies in the West Midlands, no matter what type of vacancy you are trying to fill / type of job you are looking for. Simply use the search bar below to sort agencies by location or speciality, and you will be well on the way to success.
