The Essex town of Maldon which has a population of around 15,500 lies on the Blackwater Estuary at the start of the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation. A number of recruitment agencies operate locally to help people find employment in Maldon and the other towns in East Essex.
The Maldon Crystal Salt Company has been providing employment in the town since it opened in 1882. It is currently being run by the fourth generation of the Osbourne family who founded it more than 130 years ago.
Just over 47 per cent of Maldon's workforce are employed in high ranking positions. These include managers, directors and senior officials as well as professional occupations, associate professionals and technical staff.
Around 23 per cent are employed in administrative and secretarial positions as well as skilled trades.
Caring, leisure and other service occupations account for around 20.5 per cent along with those employed in sales and customer service.
The remainder of the workforce is employed in the process plant and machine operative fields, as well as elementary occupations.
Almost 68 per cent of the local workforce is educated to NVQ Level One and above with 27.5 per cent educated to NVQ Level Four and above.
