The town of Ilford, based in the Redbridge Borough of London, is a major commercial centre that historically forms part of the county of Essex. Now covered by Greater London, Ilford is one of the settlements outlined in the London Plan and local recruitment agencies will aim to support continued growth by placing job seekers into vacancies across the town.
Ilford is home to a range of recruitment agencies that can help find permanent, temporary and contract employment for candidates. Employment firms are most commonly located in the town centre and Ilford railway station is ideally positioned to provide access to job seekers and employers. The North Circular Road is just to the east of this area. Multi-sector and specialist recruiters can also be found to the north of the High Street, close to Valentines Park.
In the 2011 Census, Ilford was listed as having a population of 168,168. Ilford is divided into two constituencies, Ilford South and Ilford North, with the latter having the higher level of employment. Despite this, Ilford South has the highest gross median weekly earnings at £632. Employment in Ilford is predominantly white-collar, and more than a quarter of the workforce have been recruited into professional occupations.
Retail is one of the principal recruitment areas in Ilford, with job vacancies common on the High Street and within The Exchange, a local shopping centre. In 2011, Ilford was named the Fastest Growing Tourist Destination in Europe, and the city's rapidly expanding Leisure and Catering sectors have particularly benefitted from the influx of visitors. Agencies will find that the demand for Waiters / Waitresses, Kitchen Staff and Chefs is therefore common. The Public Sector, however, is the largest employment sector, with more than 40% of Ilford South having a job in Health, Education or other Government services. King George Hospital and Redbridge Council are two of the biggest Public Sector employers in Ilford.
