Though not a particularly lucrative sector, education is one of the cornerstones of society in the UK. Most jobs involve teaching, lecturing, and professional training, but the sector also encompasses a diversity of administrative and infrastructural roles. Other common roles listed by Education recruitment agencies are Exam Invigilators and Nursery Nurse. Teaching jobs can be extremely challenging in some circumstances, and certainly require a high degree of patience, but educators typically find the work extremely rewarding nonetheless.
Of course, educators need strong communication skills, an ability to motivate and inspire, and a deep understanding of the subject material being taught. The qualifications and requirements for jobs in teaching are quite structured, and involve a number of advanced degree requirements, specific training courses, and the completion of numerous exams. Teachers traditionally begin their careers in student teaching positions, similar to paid apprenticeships, and receive salary boosts upon eventually completing their tenure.
Salaries range from £15 to £36K, but most education professionals earn in the lower end of the income spectrum while only a small percentage reach the top of the pay scale. One major advantage of teaching careers, however, is the holiday schedule, which is typically excellent.
