More information
Situated at the edge of the picturesque Cotswolds, in the southern county of Gloucestershire in England, Cheltenham is an historic spa town with a rich cultural history which is reflected in the number of festivals the town plays host to over the year. Home of the Cheltenham Literature, Jazz, Science, and Music Festivals which are all held separately, the town is reliant in no small part on tourism for employment.
Economic overview and key industries
As for much of the country, however, and especially in the southern counties, Cheltenham's economy is largely service based with 84.6% of all employment accounted for as such. The most significant sector in the area within the service industries is that of Public Administration, Education, and Health at 28.7% although Distribution, Hotels, and Restaurants comes a close second. GCHQ, which is the government's electronic surveillance operation has its headquarters in the town, and employs large numbers of staff in the area. Other employers of significance include GE-Aviation, UCAS, Zurich Financial Services, Endsleigh Insurance, and Chelsea Building Society.
Cheltenham's unemployment rate ranks very closely with that of the national average, and with many desirable employers, especially in the financial and IT services sector based in the town, it is a competitive place to try and find work. As such it is advisable to use specialist recruitment agencies who will have the detailed local knowledge that is necessary to secure employment in Cheltenham.
