More information
The area of the The Welsh Borders, also colloquially known as the Welsh Marches is the area of England and Wales that immediately surrounds the border between the two countries. Largely considered to include parts of Shropshire, Herefordshire, and the most westerly part of Gloucestershire, it also encompasses the Welsh towns of Monmouth, Wrexham, and Welshpool.
There are differences in employment demographics both along the border and on either side of it. Whereas Wrexham, for example, has a major employment foothold in manufacturing, with 22.5% of all employment accounted for as such, Chester, just over the border in England has a largely service based economy with only 3.9% of all employment found in manufacturing. Instead, Finance and IT services dominate employment in Chester, with 30.8% of employment found in the sector.
Key industries and employers
Public Administration, Health, and Education also account for a significant amount of employment in all areas of the Welsh Borders. In Shrewsbury, for example, it accounts for over 37% of employment. As such local and county councils, NHS Trusts, and area schools are all major employers.
To ensure the success of a job search in the Welsh Borders, it is best utilise the specialist knowledge of a recruitment agency that knows both the area and the industries and sectors that dominate it. The region's top employers are sure to advertise any staff vacancies through such recruitment agencies, and to search for potential employees in this way.
