We are constantly updating our database to provide the most comprehensive list of oil & gas recruitment agencies in the UK.
Employment trends and key employers
More than 200,000 jobs are supported by oil & gas employers, but interestingly, only 15% of candidates are employed directly by the industry. The rest are considered indirect employees, who are recruited into roles further down the supply chain.
As much of the work undertaken is on a project basis, such as exploration or construction, oil & gas recruitment companies will often be required to fill temporary and contract positions.
The largest employers are multinational energy providers such as BP, Shell and TotalOil, and agencies will partner with these firms to find staff for extraction, transportation, storage, refinement and delivery functions.
Where is the centre of the oil & gas recruitment sector?
The UK has a diverse energy market and there are opportunities nationwide for offshore, oil rig or office-based work.
Aberdeen is often regarded as the ‘oil capital of the world’ and is one of the key centres for the industry. Around 40% of the UK’s oil & gas jobs are in Scotland and the majority of these can be found in Aberdeenshire and around the north east coast. As a result, engineering and drilling recruitment is prominent here. This is typical of other coastal areas, such as Great Yarmouth and Norwich.
Major cities, like London and Manchester, are also popular locations for business headquarters, although jobs here are usually more office-based.
