How hot or cold the air is, and whether it is in a cinema, hospital, school, or another public place, plays a large part in the comfort of the people who use those places. An Air Conditioning Engineer is a specialist role which involves installing, maintaining, and repairing the systems that control air quality, humidity, and temperature.
Person specification
The more flexible an Engineer is, the more attractive he or she will be to recruitment agencies and employers. In some cases the working conditions may be cramped or in hazardous places, such as on the roof of a building, off scaffolding, or in cellars. Good candidates for the role tend to be practical people, who can follow technical drawings, work safely and methodically, measure accurately, and follow instructions. They would be expected to be team players who can also work on their own.
Salaries and qualifications
Salaries for qualified Engineers reflect this requirement for flexibility.
Qualifications are important for employment, as electrical, chemical, and mechanical equipment is being installed and maintained, often in public places, and proof of competence is vital. Recruitment agencies are unlikely to accept someone without any official training. Such training usually begins with an apprenticeship and NVQ Mechanical Engineering Services 1-3 Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.
