More Information
Working in advocacy in the charity sector involves promoting and advocating for the charitable organisation's aims and strategies to be better implemented and understood by wider society. Advocacy staff will work with the media and policy makers to spread awareness of the organisation's message and to implement the charity's strategy.
Working in advocacy can range from working as a street fundraiser for a charity, to working at the heart of the organisation in managerial positions which involve a great deal of responsibility and experience in the sector. In such positions, candidates will have proven experience with working with government officials, and in influencing policy successfully. Staff members in advocacy tend to hold bachelor degrees and will have proven their commitment to the sector, and more specifically to the ethos of the charitable organisation through work experience and possibly volunteering.
Earnings are dependent upon the position held within the advocacy sector, with junior and entry level jobs coming in under the national average. Managerial positions, however, provide candidates with the opportunity to earn upwards of £39,000 which comes in comfortably above the national average for earnings.
Charitable organisations tend to use specialist recruitment companies to advertise any openings of positions, and as such it is paramount that prospective employees in the sector use such services to secure their success in advocacy.
