Those seeking a role within the charity sector may wish to consider London as their base. As the capital city, London is home to a wide range of charities operating within different sectors, including homelessness charity Crisis, cancer charity Macmillan and heart health charity the British Heart Foundation.
It is not just head office roles that are available, however, with many choosing to pursue fundraising roles, either over the phone or face to face.
Charity roles do not tend to be particularly well paid, with those who opt for a career in this industry doing so because of their philanthropic nature. Salaries for London-based roles, however, do tend to be slightly higher than those advertised by recruitment agencies elsewhere in the country, with salaries generally starting at around £17,000 and rising to over £40,000 for some more senior roles.
The range of roles available is large, from campaign managers to media relations roles. Whether your background is in fundraising, marketing, communications or IT, you will find a role in the charity sector that will suit your experience. There is much competition for paid roles, however: having an internship and plenty of unpaid work in the sector will boost your chances in the charity sector.
