Pub and Bar Manager recruitment agencies will typically deliver Hospitality Management candidates for the senior vacancies of licensed establishments. A Pub Manager will oversee all aspects of running a bar / licensed premises and will be responsible for ensuring that customers receive an efficient and friendly service.
Person specification and qualifications / certifications
Bar and Pub Manager jobs generally include a range of responsibilities, including the ordering of stock, monitoring accounts, and supervising Bar Assistants. Candidates should therefore be dynamic and adept multitaskers. The Bar sector is considered a lively environment, and pub managers are required to be flexible and adaptable as they work unsociable hours whilst encountering an array of different personalities.
There are few academic barriers for entry to Pub Manager candidates, however GCSEs and some exposure to a bar or kitchen environment will almost certainly prove useful to job seekers. All candidates will need to demonstrate knowledge of health and safety, whilst a National Certificate for Personal License Holders will also be expected. Pub chain graduate schemes offer another viable route into the role, however many establishments will prefer to promote existing bar staff to a Bar Manager, or Pub Manager position.
Salaries and demand
Pub Managers can expect a basic salary of between £20,000 and £30,000, however this is dependent on the size of the establishment and its location - as well as any profit determined bonuses. They may also be entitled to free accommodation, depending on the nature of the premises.
Bar and catering recruitment agencies will supply Pub Managers, Bar Managers, and Bar Assistants to local or UK-wide licensed premises. As well as being recruited for permanent roles, suitable candidates are in high-demand for temporary and seasonal placements - especially in areas with a strong Tourism Industry.
