The role of Airline Captain, also known as a Pilot, offers an exciting career to job seekers who are looking to enter the Aviation Industry.
A Captain is responsible for the flight of an aircraft, be it a short-haul or long-haul journey. They will usually work alongside a First Officer, and share duties such as making pre-flight checks, writing reports and flying the plane. To qualify for this role, candidates must first obtain an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL). After a certain number of flying hours are completed, this license becomes 'unfrozen' and Pilots are then able to qualify as a Captain. Around 5,000 hours of flying experience is required.
Notable employers include Ryanair and British Airways, although agencies will partner with various commercial airlines, private flight businesses and freight companies. Specialist Aviation recruiters are most typically used to fill permanent and contract positions in this field, however, some multi-market employment firms may also be able to source qualified Captains.
