More Information
A 'qualified by experience' (QBE) accountant is somebody who has no formal qualifications, but has had a vast amount of industry experience.
Some companies will prefer using accountants that have a history of employment, whilst others may have a minimum qualification standard. Most qualified by experience accountants will have to work their way up the promotional ladder through other jobs. A qualified by experience accountant must possess all of the same skills and abilities as a qualified accountant.
Key requirements
Accountancy is a very competitive field. The most highly paid accountancy jobs are found within inner cities. There are also good opportunities to work as a freelancer. Qualified by experience employment opportunities don't come around as frequently as other forms of accountancy job, as most companies will expect candidates to have a degree or masters in the subject or a related field. That said, qualified by experience accountancy jobs can often be found through recruitment agencies.
Salaries
The salary of an accountant can vary depending on the firm and the amount of business they acquire. The salary for inner city accountants is usually significantly higher than in rural areas. Salaries can range between £22,000 and £60,000. Highly experienced accountants and freelancers may also be able to earn more.
