Bedfordshire has a population of around 617,000. Just over half of these people live in or around the towns of Bedford and Luton where there are a large number of recruitment agencies helping the county's employers find staff.
A number of well known multi-national and international companies are based in Bedfordshire and provide a large number of jobs in the area.
Bedford is the location for the headquarters of windscreen repair company Autoglass as well as the Charles Wells pub chain and Box Clever.
Luton, with its airport, is a major centre for the aviation industry. Low cost carrier easyJet has a large number of staff based at its administrative centre at London Luton Airport. Monarch Airlines and Thomson Airways who operate a mixture of charter and scheduled flights from airports across the UK, also base staff at London Luton.
Luton is the administrative headquarters for Blue Arrow, the Alexon Group and Vauxhall Motors. The town of Dunstable is the location for the headquarters of Whitbread which operates a number of restaurant chains as well as the Premier Inn brand and Costa Coffee.
Other popular household names based in Bedfordshire include Jordans Cereals at Biggleswade, UltraVision at Leighton Buzzard and Moto Hospitality at the Toddington Service Station.
Sandy is the location for the headquarters of both the Kier Group and Kingspan Off-Site.
