More information

The Accounting & Finance sector plays an important role in the UK economy and employs more than 2 million people - ranging from credit controllers to financial analysts.

Salaries vary depending on the job type. Recent graduates and new entrants can expect a starting salary of £18,000-£22,000, but gaining the right qualifications and experience can see this rise quickly. Meanwhile, managers and executives, such as corporate finance executives, can earn more than £50,000. London and the South East usually offers the best salary and career opportunities, but cities such as Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds also provide openings.

Employers will look for candidates with a university degree to a 2:1 level. Maths-related qualifications are almost essential to enter the sector, with courses in financial management, insurance and accounting all being looked upon favourably. Professional qualifications tend to be provided by The Association of Certified Accountants (ACCA) and The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
