A cisco engineer will develop and implement plans to improve the performance of a network system.
The main purpose of a cisco engineer is to provide solutions that will aid business growth, network security and all around network performance. Common tasks include; the configuration of routers, switches and firewalls; monitoring security and anomalies within the network; and analysing analytics to improve the systems overall performance.
Most cisco jobs will require the candidate to have a degree in computer science or a related field. They must also be a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP). Most jobs will also require at least five years of experience within the industry itself. Other skills that are essential include; being able to work independently, good oral and written English, and competence using a computer.
The majority of cisco engineer employment opportunities are within inner cities. The job market can be very competitive and most employers will seek candidates with previous experience, rather than graduates. That said those who had acquired work experience will likely be considered. Cisco engineer jobs can often be found through recruitment agencies.
The average salary of a cisco engineer is £30,000; however experienced candidates working for a large scale company could earn up to £100,000.
