A Multi Trader, often referred to as a Handyworker or Handyperson, is a professional that is skilled in multiple crafts. Working as part of the Construction sector, Multi Traders may be employed within numerous vacancies and recruitment agencies can be used to find work or to make Handyperson hires.
Recruiters of Multi Traders will include specialist Construction agencies who will deploy candidates to building sites, properties and for in-house roles. Recruitment agencies that offer staffing services in multiple sectors will also often recruit for Handyman vacancies. As a result of the work, agencies will commonly source staff for contract jobs, however a Multi Trader can also be employed permanently with a subcontractor or Facilities Management provider.
The responsibilities of a Multi Trader are diverse, but will typically be centred around maintenance and repairs. This means that a candidate may have to undertake duties such as Plumbing, Gardening and Electrical work. The majority of Multi Traders will earn around £20,000 per annum, however recruitment agencies will also make staff placements into roles commanding earnings of £20,000-£40,000. Although there are no explicit qualifications needed to be a Multi Trader or Handyperson, a valid CSCS is generally expected. Experience is valued highly by employer, whilst it is also an advantage for candidates to own their own tools.
