Finchley is part of the London Borough of Barnet, in North London. It is a largely residential area, and is unusual in that it boasts three town centres. These are Church End, East Finchley, and North Finchley.
Finchley has 17 primary schools which feed 6 secondary schools in the area, and also has good public leisure centres as well as several membership based gyms. The area is extremely popular with families, and much of its housing is suitable for these households.
Employment rates in Finchley are slightly below the national average at around 68%, however the majority of workers are either employed in management, or white collar, professional occupations, such as teachers, nurses, IT specialists, and dentists. There are several recruitment agencies based in Finchley that specialise in supplying staff for dentistry work, teaching, and IT. The majority of people are employed by the private sector.
Although unemployment figures, particularly for younger people, are not very encouraging, a £1 million investment for skills, employment and enterprise is being undertaken at present by the borough council for Barnet.
Average salaries are around £32,295 or about £621 per week in the Finchley area, which indicates a reasonably good standard of living, even in the capital.
