Coalville is a town in the north-west of Leicestershire, and close to the M1 between Burton and Leicester. As its name would suggest, it was originally a coal-mining town as far back as medieval times. In the 19th century, other industries including textiles, engineering, and quarrying grew but in the 1980s, it suffered a major setback following the closure of the coal mines. The local council subsequently went to great efforts to regenerate the area, constructing a number of new industrial estates and business parks.
In the 21st century, Coalville's largest employment sectors are manufacturing, and transport and logistics, mainly due to the close proximity of East Midlands Airport and key transportation links like the M1, M42, A42, and A50. Another key area is public administration, education and health (employing 21.8% of the population.)
Of the districts 35,000 residents, many are employed by large local businesses such as Iceland, Morrisons, and in the public sector by the local council and community hospital, and the average annual wage is £24,454 for a full-time member of staff.
Recruitment agencies are the best places to look for vacancies in Coalville and, in addition, you will often find employment opportunities in nearby towns like Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Loughborough.
