CAD/CAM recruitment agency listing
Computer aided design / computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) involves the use of computer software to both design and manufacture tools and machinery. CAD uses systems to create, analyse and monitor the design of products, whereas CAM will use this data to control the automated machinery that manufactures the physical parts. Specialist IT or graphics recruitment agencies will be experts at recruiting CAD/CAM technicians for permanent, temporary or contract jobs.
Apprenticeships tend to offer the most common route into a CAD/CAM position however this is dependent on applicants attaining five GCSEs (A-C). Alternatively, college courses offer candidates the opportunity to develop key skills, although a degree or HND in engineering, manufacturing or construction will also make candidates competitive in the market. Employers will value personality as much as academic background though and problem solving skills, manufacturing knowledge and a creative flair are all considered to be essential qualities.
Entry level or junior CAD/CAM roles will command a salary of £15K-£18K although this will typically rise with more experience and on the job training. A few years in industry can result in earnings of around £25K, whilst senior technicians and designers could eventually earn a salary of £32K+ per annum.
Due to the nature of the role, a specialist IT recruitment agency will often be approached by employers to fill CAD/CAM vacancies. These consultants will most have the technical knowledge and industry experience to provide the expert solutions to their local or UK wide clients. Top technology recruiters will also be able to conduct relevant assessments of candidates to ensure that they have the right skills and personality for the job role.
