More information
Jobs in the creative sector contribute nearly 3% of the UK's annual revenue and provide jobs for about 1.5 million people. They are also responsible for roughly one-tenth of the nation's exports. In total, it is estimated that 100,000 businesses contribute to the industry, and many of these are relatively small companies.
Designers today need more than mere artistic aptitude; they are also required to have working knowledge of digital design tools and CAD software. In many cases, formal qualifications are not required, but many institutes do offer courses, degrees, and training programmes that help improve employment outlooks and hone critical skills. For many, apprenticeships can be an excellent way to enter the field of creative art & design, and there are a growing number of paid apprentice opportunities available throughout the United Kingdom.
Salary Expectations
New professionals with limited experience in the industry typically make about £20K per year, while those on the upper end of the salary spectrum earn about £60K. The average income for the field is around £30K per year, but salaries in London tend to be significantly higher, and those in the North East are typically much lower than elsewhere in the country. Today, web design offers a unique opportunity in the industry, as it is one of the rare creative professions experiencing rapid growth.
