More information
The county of Worcestershire is situated in the West Midlands. It has an estimated total population of 566,500, an area of 1,741 square kilometres and two large rivers, the Avon and the Severn.
Traditional agriculture in rural Worcestershire was based around fruit and hops farming, with commercial orchards still in operation in the Vale of Evesham. The county is also well known for the condiment Worcestershire Sauce, which is made by Lea and Perrins in the city.
Economic overview and key industries
In the heart of the county is Worcester, which is home to around 93,000 people and contains the historic cathedral, a £60 million library (which opened in 2012), two large shopping centres and good transport links (it is 50km from Birmingham).
Around 80% of businesses in the city are small ones employing between 1-10 people. The city has strong representation in the banking, hotel, restaurant, public administration, construction and manufacturing sectors.
The county is home to the Malvern Hills, the market towns of Evesham, Droitwich Spa, Tenbury Wells and Pershore, which makes it a popular tourist destination. The tourist industry employs a considerable number of staff and job seekers should contact recruitment agencies to discuss potential employment opportunities in and around the area.
